Gifted Awareness Week was founded in 2015 by the Australian Association for the Education of the Gifted and Talented (AAEGT) to raise awareness of the identification, support and learning needs of gifted children and to celebrate the dedication of individuals and educational bodies who are making a positive difference in the lives of gifted children and their families.
Decades of research has provided us with clear, consistent information on the nature of giftedness, and how to appropriately support it. We know that schools and teachers need to provide learning that is different for these students. Despite this many remain under-stimulated, under-challenged, disengaged from learning, and can struggle with their mental wellbeing. This is why we need your help. There are a few ways you can get involved.
These images are just some ideas to get you started so that together we can raise awareness of the learning and social/emotional needs of gifted young people.
Do you have something to share that might help to raise awareness around the identification, support, learning differences or social/emotional needs of gifted students? We'd love to hear from you! Maybe you're involved in gifted education policy. Maybe you're a gifted education teacher with practical tips that others can use in the classroom. Maybe you're a gifted student, parent or gifted adult. The more we can share about the realities of giftedness, the better we will be positioned to support gifted young people. The 2025 Gifted Awareness Week theme is Policy to Practice. How can we implement gifted education policy day-to-day to support our gifted young people?
